\nIn this vehicle model, a system was developed to prevent the risk of spontaneous combustion when oil from the lubrication circuit of the diesel engine enters the combustion chamber in large quantities.
\nThey cannot be controlled by the engine control computer, and risk causing irreparable damage to the engine very quickly.
\nTo prevent engine failure, the engine control unit ( ECU ) uses a so-called 'start on oil' strategy.<\/p>\n
Let us see in detail what happens
\nWe know from experience that in the event of a turbine failure, or when there is oil suction from the vapour recovery pipes, or through the brake depressor.
\nIn such cases, the engine accelerates and all the oil in the engine sump flows into the combustion chamber.
\nThis leads to engine damage due to seizing.
\nProblem Solution
\nIf a 'packed engine' is detected, i.e. a sudden increase in engine revs due to starting on oil, the engine will stop.
\nThe ECU will detect a start on oil in the following cases:
\n- Engine speed above 6000 rpm
\n- Injection interrupted (Foot raised)
\n- Deviation between set boost pressure and detected boost pressure greater than 8 bar
\nFollowing a 'packed engine' The ECU will stop the engine as soon as a start on oil is detected.
\nActions performed to stop the engine:
\n1. Inducing closure of the intake air manifold
\n2. Induce closure of the exhaust gas recycling valve
\n3. Prohibiting fuel injection
\n4. Reduced flow after start-up
\n5. Minimum pressure in the common high-pressure fuel injection ramp (High-pressure pump actuator opening)
\n6. Deactivation of particle filter regeneration
\n7. Turbine maximum opening request
\n8. Interrupting vehicle speed limitation\/adjusting vehicle speed
\n9. Deactivation of air manifold control
\n10. Deactivation of exhaust gas recirculation valve control
\n11. Deactivation of exhaust oxygen control<\/p>\n
Once the engine is switched off, the ECU authorises restart in reduced mode and only with reduced flow, limiting the engine speed.
\nAn intervention with the diagnostic tool is required to restore normal operation.<\/p>\n
