DTC code definition (E-OBD)<\/strong><\/p>\n

In order to brush up on the rules governing the handling of modern cars, with this post we begin to publish a short series of 'technical tidbits' that we believe will be useful in better interpreting situations that occur in the workshop on a daily basis.<\/p>\n

Let us begin by recalling the meaning of the acronyms:
\nDTC: 'Diagnostic Trouble Codes'.\u00a0 <\/strong>i.e. \"diagnostic fault code\"
\nEOBD: European On Board Diagnostic <\/strong>i.e. 'Diagnosis on board vehicle version Europe'<\/strong> (which is also used as a synonym for DTC)
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Error Codes DTC (E-OBD) <\/strong>are divided into four different types depending on the car part involved:<\/p>\n

P<\/b> power train
\nB<\/b> Body
\nC<\/b> chassis (Chassis)
\nU <\/b>future systems or undefined errors (Undifined)<\/p>\n

The second digit represents the subgroup to which it belongs:<\/p>\n

1<\/b>=Fault code reserved for the manufacturer
\n0<\/b> or 2<\/b>= SAE standardised fault code<\/p>\n

Here are some examples of SAE standardised error codes<\/b><\/p>\n

P0130 <\/b>Lambda sensor circuit1 bank 1
\nU2007 <\/b>audio navigator not responding<\/p>\n

Here are some examples of manufacturer reserved codes
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

P 1629 Daewoo\/Chevrolet:\u00a0 <\/b>ECM control unit has received incorrect messages from the immo system more than 5 times; starting is not allowed
\nC1091(Ford) <\/b>Inconsistent vehicle speed signal
\nB1201 (Ford)<\/b> fuel level signal error<\/p>\n
