{"id":2980,"date":"2017-04-05T14:37:07","date_gmt":"2017-04-05T12:37:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.checkstar-techblog.it\/?p=2980"},"modified":"2024-01-12T14:33:30","modified_gmt":"2024-01-12T13:33:30","slug":"ford-focus-mk1-1-8-tddi-low-performance-vehicle-and-high-smoke","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.checkstar-techblog.it\/en\/ford-focus-mk1-1-8-tddi-low-performance-vehicle-and-high-smoke\/","title":{"rendered":"Ford Focus MK1 1.8 TDDi: poor car performance and high smoke levels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Good morning, everyone.<\/p>\n<p>Today I would like to give you a 'tip', in case you happen to have a <strong>Ford Focus Mk1<\/strong>, with motorisation <strong>1.8 Tddi<\/strong> (engine not equipped with a flute rail), which has high smoke and poor efficiency.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2981 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.checkstar-techblog.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/focus-cinghia-235x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"263\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.checkstar-techblog.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/focus-cinghia-235x300.jpg 235w, https:\/\/www.checkstar-techblog.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/focus-cinghia-768x980.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.checkstar-techblog.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/focus-cinghia-802x1024.jpg 802w, https:\/\/www.checkstar-techblog.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/focus-cinghia-704x899.jpg 704w, https:\/\/www.checkstar-techblog.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/focus-cinghia.jpg 1059w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 263px) 100vw, 263px\" \/>The special feature of this car, apart from the fact that it has a <strong>mixed distribution<\/strong> (chain from crankshaft to injection pump and belt from injection pump to camshaft), is to have a camshaft pulley that is not 'keyed'. Over time this tends to rotate, almost imperceptibly, around the axis of the camshaft, thus changing the valve opening and closing times.<\/p>\n<p>To verify the position of the<strong> camshaft pulley<\/strong> the appropriate phase pins must be correctly positioned; by doing so, the motor will present a correct <strong>phasing<\/strong>\u00a0e<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>appropriate checks can be carried out.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This phenomenon can therefore adversely affect engine performance, causing a drop in performance and high black smoke from the exhaust.<\/p>\n<p>N.B.: High smoke and poor efficiency may also indicate other types of failure, e.g. a possible clogging of the <strong>egr valve<\/strong> or a <strong>suction sleeve<\/strong> damaged, it is therefore necessary to check the integrity of these components before working on the camshaft pulley.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2982 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.checkstar-techblog.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/ford-focus-3-porte-2001-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"236\" height=\"157\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.checkstar-techblog.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/ford-focus-3-porte-2001-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.checkstar-techblog.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/ford-focus-3-porte-2001-1-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.checkstar-techblog.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/ford-focus-3-porte-2001-1-332x220.jpg 332w, https:\/\/www.checkstar-techblog.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/ford-focus-3-porte-2001-1-704x468.jpg 704w, https:\/\/www.checkstar-techblog.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/ford-focus-3-porte-2001-1.jpg 902w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 236px) 100vw, 236px\" \/>Good work and...... see you next time!\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px; vertical-align: middle; -webkit-box-shadow: none; -moz-box-shadow: none; box-shadow: none;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.checkstar-techblog.it\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-emoji-one\/icons\/1F609.png\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Good morning everyone.
